Marion County Recognized for Excellence in Tourism at Hospitality University
Pleasant Valley, W.Va. — Marion County took the spotlight at the 15th annual Hospitality University, earning three of the five prestigious Excellence in Tourism Awards presented by the West Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association.
The awards honor businesses and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to West Virginia’s tourism industry, recognizing excellence in education, customer service and entrepreneurship. All three recipients were nominated by the Marion County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“The winners are more than deserving of this recognition,” Leah Smith, executive director of the CVB, said. “Each one of them has made and continues to make a significant contribution to tourism both in our county and in our state.”
Pierpont Community and Technical College’s culinary program received the Excellence in Tourism Education Award. Natalie Feltz, food service management program coordinator, accepted the award at the conference on Jan. 27. The program was recognized for its role in preparing students for careers in West Virginia’s growing culinary tourism sector. Alumni have started businesses such as CL Cakery in Fairmont and have worked for places like Draper’s at The Greenbrier.
Wendy Anderson, general manager of the Fairfield Inn and Suites, accepted her award at the conference for Excellence in Tourism Customer Service. Anderson is known for her exceptional hospitality, ensuring that guests feel at home no matter how long their stay. She has developed compassion for people who are away from their homes and helps her guests when they need it most.
Beau Robinson, owner of Natives Fly Fishing and creator of Catch Cam Nets, was unable to attend the conference but received the Excellence in Tourism Entrepreneurship Award. Robinson’s guided fly-fishing tours and innovative Catch Cam Nets introduce visitors to the beauty of West Virginia’s waterways, with most of his clients traveling from out of state. Robinson also donates to local organizations that work to preserve our waters and fish for continued enjoyment by locals and visitors.
These accolades highlight Marion County’s continued leadership in West Virginia’s tourism industry, showcasing its commitment to hospitality, innovation and visitor experience.
